Alde End Cottage – Self-Catering Holiday Cottage in Array

Snape is best known as the venue for the Aldeburgh Festival and for other events throughout the year held in the Maltings Concert Hall. However, the pretty village, at the head of the tidal estuary, is a popular holiday venue in its own right and central for exploring the unique area of the Suffolk Heritage Coast – the tidal estuary and network of footpaths are one of the most interesting areas of Suffolk for exploring on foot. There is easy access to the fascinating coastal town of Aldeburgh, plus castles and much more to explore at Framlingham and Orford. The burial treasures at Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge, should not be missed also.

Part of Alde End Cottage was built around 250 years ago. Featuring beams and with lots of character, it’s situated approximately 300 yards from Snape Maltings and the River Alde on the village crossroads and is just a stone’s throw away from both public houses where good food is served.

Friston is a small tranquil village situated in a quite backwater of Suffolk, within easy reach of many interesting locations, to make your holiday enjoyable. The old town of Aldeburgh with its beach and fishing boats, cinema, museum summer theatre, shops and restaurants, and Leiston with its leisure centre/pool, cinema and museum are about 4 miles away. As is Snape Maltings, which has shopping/galleries, and the concert hall. Thorpeness has its own laid back style and boating mere, is approximately 5 miles . Countryside with good, interesting walks is all around, of note are Dunwich heath, |Minsmere bird reserve, and Rendlesham forest , Southwold, Walberswick, Orford and Woodbridge all are within 25 miles drive.

Just a mile north of Aldeburgh is this fascinating seaside village, built in the 1920s by Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie, an architect, barrister and playwright. The mock Tudor style of building is now the hallmark of Thorpeness, where the amenities include the Dolphin Inn, the Thorpeness Hotel with its 18-hole golf club, a country club with tennis courts and the Mere – a large shallow boating lake with tearooms nearby. The beaches are mainly sandy and behind the village is a myriad of footpaths over heath and common land.
